The Food That Fuels: An Interview with Ed Porter

Please tell us about the projects you worked on before making ‘The Food That Fuels. How did you start, and how did you learn to make films?

Before working on The Food That Fuels, I was creating a documentary about the making of my album de zero (which means from scratch), which uniquely combines food and music in intentional ways, along with pursuing a few other passion projects.

Tell us about ‘The Food That Fuels’. How do you describe it?

The Food That Fuels is a project close to my heart. As a chef and someone deeply passionate about the planet and its people, these stories practically tell themselves. The individuals and their passion within this vital valley embody the essence of humanity.

Please tell us about your favorite filmmakers.

There are so many people I admire and draw inspiration from, including George Lucas, Melvin Van Peebles, Martin Scorsese, Mira Nair, Spike Lee, and Akira Kurosawa, who are among my favorites.

If you were given a good budget, what would be your ideal project?

The Food That Fuels is envisioned as a docuseries. With a strong budget I would realize that vision and would focus on telling stories that celebrate our unique differences while revealing the connections that unite us all brought to life through the universal languages of food, music, and film.

Describe how you would ensure that production is on schedule. What steps would you take?

Like any craft, a solid production begins with an excellent blueprint and skilled artisans to bring it to life. Staying true to the "why" is paramount. With thoughtful planning, a clear focus on the end goal, and the right team, meeting deadlines becomes achievable.

What was the hardest part of making ‘The Food That Fuels’.

The biggest challenge in creating The Food That Fuels was finding the balance between capturing the essential information, emotion, passion, and significance of the subject without making it feel overly verbose or losing its heart due to brevity.

If possible, tell us about your next work. What plans do you have for your future work?

My future plans include securing strategic partnerships to bring The Food That Fuels docuseries to life and share it with a global audience.
