RAPACE: An Interview with Nina Schuchman

Please tell us about the projects you worked on before making ‘RAPACE’. How did you start, and how did you learn to make films?

“RAPACE” is my first movie ever. I’ve learnt by myself and with people I know who are in this industry. Before that, I was in the Cours Florent as an actor. I’m now looking to act again (by the way) and direct other projects.

Tell us about ‘RAPACE’. How do you describe it?

I would say this is a challenge for Carole (the main character). This story is about friendship, death and how people react in extreme situations. This is what I love about movies : to put our characters in weird and unpredictable conditions.

Please tell us about your favorite filmmakers.

I would say that Tarantino is one of my favorites. I like that his imagination is violent physically, even though mine is psychological.

If you were given a good budget, what would be your ideal project?

I would realise my dream project which is my first real movie. I’m working on it right now (among other scripts). The only thing I could say is that it would be considered in the register fantastic and apocalyptic.

Describe how you would ensure that production is on schedule. What steps would you take?

I would take my time for any step of the process! I would consider everything even more important that I did, because I was so overwhelmed and unsure about what I was doing, in order to make my next project even better!

What was the hardest part of making ‘RAPACE’.

The hardest thing was the lack of time. I only had 1 month to prepare it, only 2 nights to shoot it and 1 month for the post-production. So everything was in a rush.

If possible, tell us about your next work. What plans do you have for your future work?

I’m working right now on my next short film in which I will play one of the main characters. I’m very excited to continue this adventure !
