Project Title: Pages Without You

Brief Synopsis: Photographer Yan-Youfeng faced the pain of bereavement alone after the death of his mother Yan-Xiaoqing. When he was grieving alone, he realized that his mother would completely disappear from this world, and he couldn’t find any photos of his mother. Youfeng began to recall his past with his mother, trying to find her figure from old things, graduation albums, and old photos. Youfeng’s friend Lin-Peiru’s husband Shukai died in the line of duty, and Peiru put on a wedding dress at the funeral to complete the unfinished wedding of the two. Youfeng took a picture of this moment for her, which made him start to think about ”whether the image can make up for the regret.” In a conversation with his grandmother, Youfeng realizes that he has been documenting his life for others, but he has never taken a good photo with his mother. He decided to take a last photo of his mother, symbolizing the last connection between mother and child, completing the image she had never left before her death. Finally, Youfeng held a photography exhibition “The Temperature of Farewell”, in which he exhibited his own photographs of the bereaved, in which each family. Each family member held a portrait of the deceased, symbolizing that the living and the deceased are still dependent on each other in the same photo. When he hung his mother’s picture on the exhibition wall, he finally found comfort in the image and let his mother’s figure remain.
